Convert McCain-ines Campaign

Pro-Obama Dog Owners Take on Republican Counterparts after Poll Shows Dogs Favor McCain

CHICAGO, Il - Wednesday, July 9, 2008

A pro-Obama dog gear company is trying to bag any possibility of Sen. McCain snatching the White House from their "Top Dog". The plan: take on America’s McCain-ines.

Chicago-based Dogs4Democrats.com this week launched its "Convert McCain-ines" campaign, the latest way die-hard Obama supporters are plugging any holes in their quest to elect the first African-American President.

The goal: influence your friend or family members vote by appealing to their animal-loving side.

Sharon Feldman, the site’s founder, is mailing Obama-branded dog collars and leashes, and dog doo-doo bags with Bush and Cheney’s faces on either side to dog lovers she thinks might support McCain.

"Aside from someone’s family, there’s nothing more cherished by Americans than pets," said Feldman, a long-time pet owner. "Why not go about getting your candidate elected that way? Dress your dog in Obama."

The movement started after a recent AP/Yahoo News poll showed the country’s dog owners currently favor McCain to win, 42 percent to 37 percent.

Unaffiliated with the Obama campaign, Dogs4Democrats.com owner Sharon Feldman mailed all of her Republican State Senators (most of whom she thinks own pets) her company’s popular "Mission Accomplished" Dog Doo-Doo bags. The bags feature Bush and Cheney’s face on either side.

"I wanted lawmakers to remember that voting Republican in November will leave Americans cleaning up after more messes like the ones left by the current Republican administration," said Feldman, a longtime dog owner and political activist.

She’s also mailing her companies Obama dog gear she helped design, including "I ♥ Obama" collars and "I Bark for Barack" T-shirts. "This is a great way for someone to show that our Obama dogs outnumber McCain-ines.
